There is little doubt that at some point you’ve heard of anesthesia, especially in combination with the facelift procedure, but you might be wondering what that means and what effect that the anesthetic actually has on the procedure itself. Don’t worry, it’s not nearly as complicated as it might sound, and there are actually four common types of anesthetic that you will be hearing about. Chances are you’ve heard about them on television at some point, or maybe you’ve heard other doctors talking about them. Let’s cut through the mystery and talk about the common types of anesthesia used in a Miami face lift.
Miami Face Lift Local Anesthesia
This is actually just what it sounds like. Local anesthesia is used to prevent blood loss in particular areas and will continue to do so throughout the course of your surgery. Keep in mind that when a local anesthetic is used you will not be ‘asleep’ for the surgery in question. You will be awake and aware, so it would definitely be used for a more minor procedure. Local anesthetics used by face lift doctors in Miami normally come in the form of a spray, ointment, or an injection.
Regional Anesthetic
When the local anesthetic won’t do the trick, the regional comes into play. This is used for a slightly larger are than would be handled by the local anesthetic, and two of the most common can include:
- Spinal Block – Used for blocking nerves that send pain signals throughout the body.
- Epidural – This falls into the same category as the previous anesthetic we mentioned, but it is used during childbirth.
During plastic surgery, there are many different reasons for which a regional anesthetic might be used, and you can trust us to use them the right way.
Sedation Anesthetics
If you’ve ever watched medical shows like ER, then this is the anesthetic that you’re probably the most used to seeing. It is a type that is administered in several different ways, intravenously, in pill form, or even as a gas which you would inhale. Unlike the stronger type of anesthetic which we will get to in a moment, this one has a few different levels of sedation including minimal, moderate, and deep. It all depends on the procedure being done and the opinion of the physician in question.
General Anesthesia

This is the big one – the one that you automatically think of when you hear ‘anesthesia’. A face lifts doctor in Miami will use this one for the longer procedures and the general idea is to not only block out all pain, but to keep you from remembering the procedure later. There are several ways to take this drug that affects the entire body, the most common being through a vein or with a mask (inhaled). It affects the entire body, and it’s the kind you see on television shows where they tell someone to count backwards from ten.
There are several different types of anesthesia but one fact remains the same: you need to make sure that you find an experienced doctor capable of properly handling it. This means doing your research, reading through testimonials, and most importantly, making sure that you ask questions. The right doctor is out there and it won’t be long before you’re not only in good hands, but finally on your way to living a better life after an extensive facelift procedure. There are lots of things to take into consideration, but at PSI Miami we’ve got the bases covered and we’re ready to provide you the best facelift the industry has to offer.
