Six Questions about Miami Liposuctions Answered

July 24, 2015 by Plastic Surgery Institute

If you have been considering liposuction in Miami, you likely have many questions! Generally, people have a basic understanding of the liposuction procedure, but they also have questions they may feel uncomfortable or embarrassed to ask. Whether you are ready to schedule an appointment with liposuction doctors in Miami or you are trying to decide whether this procedure is for you, you can use these answers to help make your decision a little easier:

Will Miami liposuction help me lose weight?

Not exactly. Miami liposuction is not a weight loss program. In fact, if you are extremely overweight, doctors may not even perform the surgery on you, as it is higher risk. As a rule, plastic surgeons cannot remove more than about 5 liters (close to 11 pounds) of fat. While you may weigh a bit less following your Miami liposuction, it will not be much.  While you will not lose a lot of weight in terms of numbers, patients who undergo liposuction can look like they lost a significant amount of weight because of the contouring involved.

Miami city liposuction works best for small areas of fat. For example, if you have lost weight and have small areas that just will not slim down, liposuction can help.

Will I have loose skin after Miami City liposuction

If you know much about weight loss, you know that individuals who have a lot of weight to lose may end up with a lot of extra skin. This occurs because the excess weight stretches the skin. As you get older, skin elasticity starts to decrease. Extremely obese people, even if young, may also end up with very loose skin.

You should note that there is a difference in definitions of looseness. Individuals who lose a lot of weight may have folds of loose skin. Patients who undergo liposuction could have looser skin in that its less form fitting, but not necessarily flappy.

When you undergo Miami city liposuction, your doctor can take up to about 5 liters of fat. Whether you have loose skin or not is mostly dependent on your body and your age. You could end up with some loose skin, but it is not likely to be extreme. Still, you may opt to have an additional surgery to remove the excess skin if it bothers you. Additionally, some strength training can also help tighten your skin.

How long will I stay swollen following liposuction in Miami?

Recovery time following liposuction in Miami varies depending on your age, where you had the fat removed and other physical considerations. However, the average patient can stay at least a little bit swollen for up to 9 months following the procedure. Surgical pain is usually resolved within a few weeks and you can resume normal activities within a month.

You may be required to wear a special compression garment about two weeks following the surgery. The compression garment will help reduce swelling and prevent blood clots from forming. Usually you can begin exercising within three weeks and you can likely return to work within two. You should gauge your level of activity on how you feel following your affordable liposuction in Miami.

What happens to my fat after you remove it?

This depends. Some patients combine affordable liposuction Miami with a procedure like a Brazilian Butt Lift. In this option, the surgeon removes fat from the abdomen or thighs via liposuction and circulates it through a machine injected into the bottom to create a fuller look.

If you are not undergoing a Brazilian Butt Lift, your fat will be safely stored as medical waste and disposed of as required by law.

What happens my weight changes after liposuction

In a similar vein, many patients wonder whether they will regain the fat the liposuction doctor in Miami removed during their surgical procedure. You can. However, if you maintain a healthy diet and exercise routine, you are not likely to get the fat back. Additionally, if you do gain weight, your body will keep the new contours, but bigger.

If you get pregnant following the best liposuction Miami, your surgical results are not altered permanently, provided you lose the weight you gained during pregnancy. Additionally, weight gain will not cause fat to return to areas you had surgically altered.

Losing weight and exercising following work by a liposuction specialty doctor in Miami can actually improve your results. Because you should not get the procedure until you have reached a relatively healthy weight, you may not have a lot to lose. However, your liposuction procedure can help the visual results of your new weight loss.

How long until I see results?

Swelling is likely to persist for at least several weeks post-op. However, most patients see the majority of their results within 3 months of their surgical procedure. The remaining swelling usually subsides within 6 to 9 months. The type of surgery used will affect how long you are swollen following your procedure.

Generally, ultrasonic procedures result in longer periods of swelling, while procedures that involve the use of holes instead of lined incisions will heal the fastest. If you follow your doctor’s instructions, eat healthy, get enough rest, drink enough water and allow yourself to recover, you can see faster results. As always, you should talk to your doctor if you have any concerns about swelling or other problems in your surgical area.
