About Rhinoplasty
Many people in South Florida, throughout the country and the world, are unhappy with the appearance of their nose. It is one of the most prominent aesthetic features of the face. Because of this, it is often one of the first things people notice about you when they meet you. Being self-conscious about the way your nose looks can affect your self-esteem and other areas of your life. For this reason, rhinoplasty (also called a “nose job”) is one of the most common plastic surgery procedures performed today. (1) Tens of thousands of rhinoplasty surgeries are performed each year in the United States alone.
A Customized Approach
Rhinoplasties by Dr. Ghersi are highly customizable because there is no “one-size-fits-all” approach to achieving satisfactory results. He must consider several different factors, including facial balance and harmony, nasal function, and the patient’s specific goals.
“He was great when I went to visit him for the first time, he answered all my questions and made himself available every time I called the office after my surgery. I saw Dr Ghersi on TV once talking about rhinoplasty. I saved his name and after three months I decided to give him a call. When I went to his office I was very happy with the way he answered all my questions. His office staff was very friendly as well.” – Real Patient
Benefits of Rhinoplasty
PSI Miami patients choose rhinoplasty for a variety of reasons. Many have disliked their nose for years and want to improve their appearance overall by enhancing its shape or size or improving their facial balance and aesthetics with a nose job. Others have breathing issues that are compromising their quality of life. Many patients choose the surgery for a combination of reasons—they may want to improve their appearance and boost their confidence while fixing a deviated septum or another breathing issue that is affecting their lives.
Rhinoplasty can address a wide range of aesthetic concerns related to the nose, including:
- A nose that’s too large or too small
- A nasal “hump” or bump on the bridge of the nose
- Crookedness or asymmetry
- Wide nasal tips that lack definition
- Droopy or downward-pointing nasal tips
- Poor facial balance
Rhinoplasty happens to be Dr. Ghersi’s specialty. As a world leader in nasal care, he performs rhinoplasties daily for cosmetic, as well as functional, concerns. The following issues can be successfully treated with functional rhinoplasty:
- Deviated septum

Who is a Candidate for Rhinoplasty?
A good candidate for rhinoplasty will be unhappy with how their nose looks or functions, and ready to address it once and for all. They should also be in good health so that they can heal properly after their surgery and enjoy the benefits. If this sounds like you, rhinoplasty could be the right choice. Before you decide to undergo this procedure, it is important to understand that there is no such thing as a perfect nose. You should have realistic expectations and aim for improvement over perfection. With that being said, rhinoplasty can produce dramatic improvement while retaining the characteristics that make you unique.

Personal Consultation
If you are thinking of getting a nose job, the first step is to discuss your goals with our rhinoplasty expert, Dr. Ghersi. During your consultation, you will tell us what bothers you most about your nose and what your expectations are. In addition, you can expect Dr. Ghersi to cover the following topics:
- Your candidacy and health
- Your goals and expectations
- A preliminary treatment plan
- Risks
- Recovery time
- Preparing for rhinoplasty
- Cost
- Questions/concerns
As part of your initial evaluation, Dr. Ghersi will use the VECTRA 3D computer simulation system, in order to design your future nose. Together, you and Dr. Ghersi will come up with a rendering that fits your goals and can be achieved surgically. This image will be used by the doctor during surgery to match the result to the image. That way, you can rest assured before your procedure of what the final outcome will be, making the process more tolerable and pleasant. After your consultation, you should have the information necessary to decide whether or not you want to move forward with your rhinoplasty. To schedule your visit, call (305) 446-7700 or fill out this form.
Preparation
Preparing for your rhinoplasty is an essential step in the process of your treatment. In the weeks leading up to your procedure, you may need to make a few changes to your normal routine. If you smoke, you will need to quit at least four weeks before your appointment to reduce complication risks and to encourage proper healing. Depending on the medications and supplements you take, you may need to adjust or eliminate certain prescriptions and over-the-counter products, including aspirin and vitamin E. Our staff will give you a complete list of the substances you should avoid. These should be eliminated two weeks beforehand to reduce bleeding during surgery.
What To Eat Before A Rhinoplasty
Although you should always attempt to maintain a healthy diet rich in nutrients, it is even more important in the weeks leading up to your rhinoplasty procedure. The right diet will help you heal more quickly and enjoy optimal results. If you’re wondering what to eat before rhinoplasty, start by focusing on unprocessed, nutrient-dense options. Lean meats, fish rich in omega-3s, vegetables, and a moderate amount of fruits, seeds, and nuts will help your body prepare for surgery and the recovery period. You should drink plenty of water and keep sugary drinks and alcohol to a bare minimum.
On your “rhinoplasty diet,” you should avoid processed, high-sugar, and high-salt foods, as well as simple carbohydrates like those found in white bread. Your body will be working hard after surgery to help you heal, and it is important to fuel it with plenty of high-quality nutrients. After surgery, you should keep this diet going. Just make sure to avoid overly salty or spicy food after rhinoplasty to keep swelling, discomfort, and inflammation down. You’ll also want to avoid food that requires a lot of chewing in the first few days after the procedure, as vigorous chewing might be uncomfortable while the incisions heal.
On the night before surgery, you will need to refrain from eating or drinking after midnight if you will be receiving general anesthesia. This is for your safety and comfort.
Preparing Your Home
For the first week or two after surgery, you won’t be in any condition to cook, clean, or complete certain household tasks. You will need to refrain from bending, lifting, and strenuous activity. You should make rest and relaxation your main priority.
Preparing for your recovery might include making sure you have healthy meals stocked in the fridge and freezer, ice packs chilled, prescriptions filled, and a comfortable area with a recliner and extra pillows to prop you up. You will also need to arrange for a ride to and from your procedure. If possible, have a friend or family member stay with you during the first few days of your recovery.
Rhinoplasty Procedure
We typically perform rhinoplasty on an outpatient basis, which means patients can go home the same day as their surgery, without needing to stay overnight. When you come in for your surgery, we will give you general anesthesia to prevent discomfort. This is a relatively in-depth plastic surgery and it is safer for patients to be under general anesthesia or deeply sedated. If you have any concerns about general anesthesia, we can discuss alternatives at your consultation.
Ultrasonic Open Structural Rhinoplasty
Dr. Ghersi uses various different techniques to perform rhinoplasty, each procedure is carefully crafted to fit you goals and needs. The most advanced and cutting edge methods are always used by the doctor, in order to achieve an optimal aesthetic transformation.
One common approach we use in the practice is the open structural technique. To begin this operation, Dr. Ghersi makes a small incision in the skin between the nostrils. This leaves a tiny scar that typically fades well over time. This approach works very well for more complex procedures, revisions and patients with very thick skin, since it allows the surgeon better visibility and access to the tissues within the nose. It also allows the doctor to reduce the size of the nose significantly when deemed appropriate. Once the incisions have been made, Dr. Ghersi can get to work on shaping the nose using his advanced techniques. These may include cartilage grafts, cutting and resetting the nasal bones, and techniques to create specific refinements to the shape, length, and form of the nose. Rhinoplasty is a complex process that can take several hours to complete.
Preservation Rhinoplasty
Another very common technique Dr. Ghersi has championed is preservation rhinoplasty. This term refers to the philosophy of making as few incisions as possible and performing as little dissection as possible, in order to preserve many of the native anatomic features of the nose. The idea here, is that results can be longer lasting and more natural in appearance. Many different types of technique can be used for preservation rhinoplasty, including closed surgery, dorsal preservation, SPQR, low septal strip and various others. Dr. Ghersi will choose the specific preservation approach that best matches the patient’s needs. This technique aims to enhance the appearance of the nose by manipulating the nasal bridge, typically treating nasal hump and other various cosmetic and functional deformities.
In addition to the above, Dr. Ghersi always uses Piezoelectric™ Ultrasonic equipment for management of the nasal bones. This is the newest and most precise method of molding the bones of the nose to minimize trauma and swelling, while optimizing results.
Revision Rhinoplasty
Revision rhinoplasty involves surgically revising a nose that has already been operated on. This can be a very complex procedure in some cases. Dr. Ghersi may need to repurpose cartilage or tissue from your ear, rib, or possibly even a cadaveric graft. Although most patients are happy with their initial rhinoplasty, we encounter patients from time to time who feel it did not meet their expectations. Sometimes patients feel a surgeon didn’t do enough, or did too much and over-corrected their nose. Because rhinoplasties can be complex, they require extensive training, experience, artistry, and sophisticated surgical skills to perform correctly. (2)
Typically, the likelihood of a patient needing a revision is approximately 20% according to the medical literature. Luckily for Dr. Ghersi’s patients, his talent with rhinoplasty allows him to have a revision rate of 6-8%, less than half of most surgeons! Some patients have also experienced complications such as unwanted scarring, nasal implant failure, or other issues as a direct result of prior rhinoplasty surgery. Although patients are often reluctant to seek out additional surgery after a bad experience, a revision rhinoplasty by Dr. Ghersi can address and fix those problems. Revisions are usually longer and more extensive than primary procedures but can produce significantly improved results.
Recovery
As with any surgical procedure, there will be some minor discomfort and inconvenience for the first few days after your surgery. However, this can be alleviated with prescription medications, ice, and by following all postoperative instructions.
Until your external splint comes off, you won’t be able to see the preliminary results of your rhinoplasty. During this period, you should stay home and rest. Splints can be removed anywhere from five to ten days after surgery at your post-operative appointment.
If your nasal bones have been reshaped you will probably have some degree of periorbital bruising (black eyes) that will take a week or two to fade. Unless you wear makeup to camouflage your bruising, others will be able to tell you have had surgery and you may want to restrict social outings if this is a concern of yours. Ideally, you should stay home and rest for up to two weeks before you go back to work and resume other activities. You will need to avoid strenuous exercise for several more weeks.
Post-Surgery Care
After your cast and sutures are removed, you will begin a prolonged recovery process. Dr. Ghersi will instruct you to tape your nose for a specific period. He may also recommend adjuvant therapies and treatments such as glycolic acid applications, facial cleanings, or even isotretinoin therapy by a dermatologist. The final results will take several months to emerge as the swelling subsides gradually. This timing will be affected greatly by your ability to follow the prescribed post-surgery care.

How Much Does Rhinoplasty Cost in Miami?
Every patient wants an affordable rhinoplasty. Keep in mind, however, that the safety of the surgery and the quality of the results are more important than the cost. No matter what, taking the experience and expertise of the surgeon into account should be your top priority. If you’re asking how to get a cheap nose job, then you may be asking the wrong question. Nose surgery prices are important, but cost should not be the most important factor when choosing a plastic surgeon. Low-cost rhinoplasty can indicate some serious risks. The potential for safety risks and poor results increases with an inexperienced (and often cheaper) surgeon. Choosing nose surgery based on the lowest price might ultimately be the most expensive choice. Your “cheap rhinoplasty” may not end up being so cheap if you experience complications and need revision surgery.
With that in mind, finding surgeons who offer affordable nose jobs involves evaluating the overall value, not simply the cost. You’ll want to find a surgeon who charges a fair price while maintaining the highest standards for quality, safety, and patient satisfaction. At PSI Miami, we offer this value and peace of mind to our rhinoplasty patients. Dr. Ghersi performs over 400 rhinoplasties per year, making him one of the national leaders in nasal care. This experience allows him to provide exceptional surgical results at fair costs.
Financing and Loans
Financing and loans for your treatment plan are available through private finance companies. You can also ask us about the nose surgery financing options that we offer in-house. Often, our clients simply pay for their nose surgery using a credit card, but this may not be the most cost-effective option depending on your situation. We are experienced in helping patients who are in different situations and can almost always find a way to get you the results you deserve.

FAQ
How long does it take to recover from rhinoplasty?
Everyone heals at a different rate. With that being said, it is a good idea to reserve about two weeks after the procedure for recovery. This will allow you enough time to finish preliminary healing before returning to work.
Is rhinoplasty painful?
We administer general anesthesia or local anesthesia with IV sedation to reduce discomfort. Patients will feel no pain during the procedure and will usually be asleep. After surgery, pain medication can alleviate any postoperative discomfort.
How soon can you get a revision after a rhinoplasty?
Typically, Dr. Ghersi likes to wait a full year, until all tissues have healed, to perform revision rhinoplasty on a patient with suboptimal surgical results.
