Brow Lift
Conveniently located to serve the areas of Miami, FL
It’s no secret that as you age, your skin loses elasticity and moisture, causing wrinkles, furrows, and sagging. These changes apply to your entire body, including the skin on your forehead. While topical creams are a good preventative measure, they are not very useful after wrinkles have already set in. That’s where surgical solutions can come in, lifting, smoothing, and rejuvenating aging skin. In the forehead area, this type of cosmetic surgery is known as a brow lift. This procedure is designed to smooth out those worry and frown lines and give the skin a more youthful, elevated appearance. At the Plastic Surgery Institute (PSI) of Miami, FL we see patients every day looking to remove these lines and get back the glow they once had in their 20s and early 30s. Our board-certified surgeons have many years of expertise, and we pride ourselves on the quality of our customer care.

Procedure
A brow lift, also known as a forehead lift, is a surgical procedure carried out to create a younger, more refreshed upper face appearance by addressing sagging skin on the forehead. In addition to removing excess skin, it repositions the underlying muscles and tissues. While tightening the forehead or brow area, the procedure simultaneously elevates a drooping brow. Brow lifts create a rejuvenated look above the eyes enhancing the patient’s natural vibrancy.
Benefits
No matter how well you take care of your skin or how good your genes are, there is no escaping signs of aging at some point. Typically, the first place to show fine lines is on the forehead. This is because there is a lot of muscle movement in the brow. It’s one of the main areas we express emotions, and these repetitive movements lead to wrinkles. Luckily, forehead lift surgery can provide several anti-aging benefits, including:
- Increased confidence with a more youthful, approachable look
- Natural looking, long-term anti-aging results lasting 5-10 years on average
- Can be combined with other treatments, such as eyelid surgery for comprehensive anti-aging
“I was referred to him, and I met him when I visited his office for a consultation. He was very professional, and caring. He addressed all my concerns. I have always been very scared of surgery, and I finally decided to see Dr Ghersi because a good friend referred me to him. Since I came into his office, I felt very welcomed and taken care of. I had a nurse at home Dr Ghersi recommended to me who was very professional after my procedure.”

Ideal Candidate
As you age and your skin loses elasticity, it becomes more and more difficult to keep wrinkles at bay. Moisturizers and retinol can only take you so far, unfortunately. When using creams and serums, there comes a point where they stop making any visible difference in your skin. When expensive creams and masks are no longer providing your desired results, that’s when a brow lift may be a good option for restoring a more youthful appearance.Factors which may indicate you are an excellent brow lift candidate include having forehead lines and wrinkles on your forehead and between the eyebrows. These lines are a result of repeated expressions you have made throughout your life and can make you look older than your actual age. Deep expression lines cannot be treated with topical treatments, and dermal fillers provide only temporary results. In this case, a long-term solution such as brow lift may be advised.
If you are unsure whether or not the brow lift is right for you, call our PSI Miami office to schedule a consultation with our team. Our experienced board-certified plastic surgeons can help advise you on which treatment will help you reach your goals safely.
Consultation
During your brow lift consultation, you will discuss your goals for your appearance, medical history, current prescription medications and supplements, and any tobacco and drug use with one of our expert, board-certified plastic surgeons. Your surgeon will evaluate your general health and assess any risk factors. Following this assessment, your surgeon will discuss your options with you, examine and measure your face, take photographs, and recommend the best course of action. They will walk you through likely outcomes of surgery and discuss any possible complications.
Throughout the consultation, you’ll be encouraged to ask questions. Don’t be shy! We are always happy to discuss any concerns you may have regarding brow lift surgery.
Expectations
Brow lift surgery at PSI Miami typically takes place in our Coral Gables medical office on an outpatient basis. You will be given local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia if that is your preference. For your safety, we monitor your heart, blood pressure, pulse, and blood oxygen levels during the surgery. An anesthesiologist will administer sedatives or general anesthesia and assist in monitoring.
Your plastic surgeon will then follow the surgical plan that was discussed in the consultation. Incisions will be made in discreet locations to avoid visible scarring. These are often placed in the hairline. The surgical process involves removing excess skin and lifting/repositioning muscle and other tissues. Once the surgery is complete, your surgeon will close the incisions. The area treated is then wrapped with sterile gauze and an elastic bandage to prevent bleeding and swelling. Following surgery, we will monitor you closely in a recovery area. Sutures and dressing will stay on your forehead for several days.
Preparation & Aftercare
Before undergoing brow lift surgery, you will receive pre-operative instructions from your surgeon, including:
- Do not smoke for a month before surgery
- Do not take certain medications (a list will be provided) two weeks before surgery
- Do not consume food or liquid after midnight the day of surgery
Other instructions you will receive beforehand include making sure to have a friend or family member drive you to and from your appointment on the day of surgery. It’s also smart to make sure you purchase all of the supplies you will need for recovery the day before surgery. These things include pain medication, bandages, groceries, and anything you would need for the next few days.
Types of Brow Lift
There are three main types of brow lift surgery. They include endoscopic, temporal or limited incision, and classical or coronal.
The endoscopic method has become increasingly popular in recent years because it is less invasive but achieves similar results as older techniques. This technique is characterized by a series of small incisions (less than an inch in length) right behind the hairline. A miniature camera and thin instruments are used to reposition the muscles and lift underlying forehead tissue.
The second method is known as the temporal or limited incision brow lift. This method uses slightly longer incisions (about one inch) just behind the hairline. The surgeon lifts and repositions the tissues of the outer brow area. It is often performed in conjunction with eyelid surgery.
Once the industry standard, the classic or coronal technique uses a long incision from ear to ear. It is not used much anymore because modern cosmetic surgeons are now able to use less invasive methods of achieving the desired results.

FAQ
How long does it take to recover?
Recovery time is on average about 10-14 days for the initial healing. Your sutures will be removed typically one week after surgery. The first week of recovery can include mild activity, such as walking. Do not attempt any strenuous activity like heavy lifting or cardiovascular exercise until cleared by your surgeon.
Are there any risks involved with brow lift surgery?
All surgery involves risks, including possible bleeding, infection, and reaction to anesthesia. Your surgeon will discuss the risks with you in full during your consultation. The best way to avoid having any of these risks occur is by choosing a reputable board-certified cosmetic surgeon that you trust.
When will I be able to see results?
Once the swelling goes away from your surgery, you should begin to see results. A few months following surgery is when full results are visible. Residual swelling will disappear gradually, revealing the final results.
How long do the results last?
A temporal brow lift typically lasts 5-7 years, while a coronal brow lift can last 10 years or longer. Remember to protect your skin following the procedure to help minimize the natural aging process. Lifestyle and genetics play a major role in the longevity of brow lift results.
Can I get a brow lift and eyelid surgery at the same time?
Yes. Many people have brow lift surgery and blepharoplasty done simultaneously. A brow lift can also be done at the same time as a facelift. These combined procedures can produce dramatic, comprehensive rejuvenation.
