Breast Augmentation Procedure
Although your surgery will be customized to meet your unique beauty goals, general breast augmentation procedure steps include:
- Anesthesia: We administer local or general anesthesia before the procedure begins, depending on the extent of your surgery. We prefer to use general anesthesia to keep you as comfortable as possible during surgery.
- Incisions: Breast augmentation requires small incisions on both breasts. Your surgeon will carefully hide the incision under the crease of the breast (the inframammary fold), or at the inferior border of the areola (periareolar), depending on the approach they feel is right for you.
- Implant placement: We can place your implants above the muscle (subglandular) or below (submuscular), depending on your specific needs. This will depend on the amount of tissue and muscle that you already have in your breasts, as well as your aesthetic preferences.
Our fully accredited surgical facility provides you with a comfortable, private, discreet, and safe place to begin your recovery immediately after your procedure. We will bring you to a spacious and quiet recovery area. Recovery nurses and staff will make sure you feel no discomfort or pain as your anesthesia begins to wear off. Recovery
Your recovery will take about six weeks, starting as soon as your surgery is over. Here is a typical recovery timeline:
- Two to three days after surgery: You may feel discomfort in your treatment area. We can provide prescription medication to help. We will have you wear a surgical bra or compression bandage to support the breast implants, reduce swelling, and protect the incisions as they heal. It is okay to take a shower.
- One week after surgery: You can go back to work and resume light activities. Avoid heavy lifting and strenuous activities. You will come in for your first post-operative appointment. We will make sure that everything looks right and that you are healing well.
- Two weeks after surgery: You can resume daily activities but should avoid vigorous exercise. It is okay to take a bath.
- Four weeks after surgery: You can resume strenuous activity that does not involve the chest.
- Six weeks: You may resume strenuous activity. Your swelling should be completely gone and you will be able to see the final aesthetic results of your treatment.
Results
You will notice an improvement in the size, shape, and fullness of your breasts immediately after surgery. However, swelling will hide the full results of your breast augmentation procedure for about six weeks. The results of your breast augmentation will be long-lasting.
