About Liposculpture
You may be doing all the right things. You are stricter than most in your eating habits, and you exercise every day. Sometimes, you may even exercise more than the recommended amount. After all this, you still cannot get rid of those pesky pockets of excess fat.
Traditional liposuction is a relatively simple procedure. It involves a plastic surgeon making small incisions to access the targeted fat. They use a thin tool called a cannula to loosen the fat, preparing it for removal. Through the cannula, they use suction to remove the fat from the body. The liposculpture procedures that we offer at Plastic Surgery Institute Miami build upon this process to provide more enhanced results.
Liposculpture body contouring can be used across the body including abdomen, thighs, hips, buttocks, arms and chin. It is known for creating finer curves and details than traditional liposuction. For example, if you have love handles, you can obtain a more distinct hourglass figure with liposculpture. Our plastic surgeons come with years of experience in innovative cosmetic procedures. So whether you are concerned about excess fat in your belly, thighs, breasts, or elsewhere, you can raise your expectations for the results we can provide. With our internationally recognized liposuction specialists, you will never have to wonder if you got the best results possible. We know every patient is unique, and we can tailor the liposculpture treatment to you and your beauty goals.
Abdominal Etching
In addition to removing fat from the abdomen, our doctors can provide an athletic look by etching out the abdominal musculature. With abdominal etching, our surgeons use specialized cannulas to enhance the appearance of the rectus abdominis and oblique muscles, unmasking the coveted “six-pack” muscles for a fit, youthful, and muscular look. Power Assisted Liposuction (PAL®) by MicroAire
Our surgeons use the PAL® liposuction products designed by MicroAire for many of their liposculpting needs. Power-assisted liposuction makes it much easier to precisely sculpt subtle contours while significantly reducing procedure time. The handpiece effectively reduces swelling and bruising, making for a quicker and less painful recovery.
InMode® BodyTite
With InMode® BodyTite, the gorgeous results of your liposculpture procedure can be taken even further. This technology breaks up the fat for easier removal and tightens the skin using radiofrequency energy. With this addition, you don’t have to worry about bumpiness or dimples as a result of lost volume, and you can enjoy a newfound tightness without the scars from a lift procedure. (2)

Who is a Candidate for Liposculpture?
An optimal candidate for liposculpture will have small pockets of excess fat that they struggle to get rid of naturally. To benefit from this procedure, you should be close to your target body weight. Liposculpture is not a weight loss solution. If your lifestyle is not already geared toward fitness and weight loss, you may not be able to uphold the results of this procedure. You should also be in good health overall. While we do offer non-invasive skin-tightening methods like BodyTite, liposculpture will work best for patients with tighter and more elastic skin. More invasive lift procedures such as the Tummy Tuck are necessary to properly treat excess and sagging skin.
Personal Consultation
One of the most important parts of any procedure is the initial consultation. If you have been thinking about receiving a liposculpture procedure in Miami now might be the perfect time to schedule your consultation. During this meeting, we will help you understand all of the liposculpture options and assess your eligibility. We will be honest with you about what we think are the best next steps in your aesthetic pursuits, and offer guidance about what you can do to get the most effective results. Come prepared to answer questions about your medical past, including information about surgeries and conditions that you have had and medications that you currently take. To schedule your visit, call (305) 446-7700 or fill out this form.
Preparation
Preparing well for your liposculpture procedure is one way that you can personally improve your experience, quicken your recovery time, and enhance your results. Using the information from your consultation, we will provide personalized preparation instructions.
Here are some general guidelines for surgery preparation:
- Avoid smoking tobacco for four weeks before and after your procedure
- Avoid alcohol consumption for two weeks before and after your procedure
- To reduce bleeding, do not consume blood-thinning substances like ibuprofen, aspirin, herbal supplements, and vitamins for two weeks before your procedure
- Lead a healthy and active lifestyle to boost your resilience
- Stay well hydrated
Liposculpture Procedure
Our surgeons perform dynamic liposculpture procedures as outpatient treatments. When you come in for your procedure, we will administer local anesthesia to your area of treatment to prevent discomfort. For most liposculpture procedures, we treat the patient’s fat in advance with a solution of anesthesia and epinephrine called tumescent fluid. This prepares the fat cells for removal and reduces the impact on your body.
Your surgeon will make small incisions near the targeted pockets of fat. Through these incisions, they will access the treatment area using a cannula. They will meticulously sculpt your area of treatment by removing precise amounts of fat from specific locations. Through this process, they will sculpt natural contours and defined muscle tone. When they are finished, we will close your incisions and prepare you for recovery.
Recovery
It can take up to several weeks to fully recover from a liposculpture procedure. You may experience noticeable bruising and swelling, though this will gradually subside. We will prescribe medication that can help alleviate any discomfort you might feel as you recover. We will also provide you with instructions for recovery, including tips for cleaning your incisions. Depending on the nature of your job, you should be able to return to work after one week. If your job requires physical activity of any kind, you may need to wait longer. You should refrain from strenuous activity for up to six weeks, or until you are completely recovered.
Results
You will notice an immediate improvement in your treatment area with a slimmer and more defined look. However, swelling will prevent the final outcome from being visible for up to six months. The results of liposculpture treatment will be long-lasting, provided that you maintain a steady weight. The fat cells that our surgeons remove cannot grow back, but changes in your weight can still affect your appearance.
Corresponding & Complementary Procedures
At Plastic Surgery Institute Miami, we can combine treatments to provide the most efficient results possible. We also offer separate treatments that can complement your liposculpture procedure.
Brazilian Butt Lift
For patients with enough excess fat, we can combine their liposculpture treatment with a Brazilian butt lift. Also known as a BBL, this procedure involves repurposing excess fat cells from other areas of the body by transferring them into the buttocks. This can increase the volume and augment the shape of the butt for a fuller and rounder look. In combination with a liposculpture procedure, our surgeons can use the fat cells from the liposuction process for a BBL. Receiving both of these treatments together can address two issues at once, refining your silhouette where it counts for an “hourglass” figure.
Tummy Tuck
A tummy tuck can provide a flatter and tighter abdomen. If your abdominal area has lots of excess or sagging skin, liposuction alone may not be able to address it. The tummy tuck procedure involves a surgeon making incisions along the abdomen in order to remove fat, tissue, and excess skin. This treatment is great for patients who have lost a significant amount of weight – such as after pregnancy – or suffer from lax skin due to the effects of aging. Depending on your condition, we may be able to include aspects of liposculpture into the tummy tuck procedure, or we may recommend them as separate treatments.

FAQ
How does liposculpture differ from traditional liposuction?
Liposculpture is a category of liposuction treatment in which the precision and expertise of the surgeons are prioritized to achieve subtle and natural-looking results. Where traditional liposuction is primarily about removing fat cells to reduce overall volume, liposculpture is geared toward contouring small areas of excess fat to accentuate the body and its underlying musculature.
How long is a liposculpture procedure?
While many liposculpture techniques make the process quicker than traditional liposuction, the precision with which the surgeons must perform may also slow down the procedure. Depending on the complexity of the treatment plan, liposculpture procedures typically take from two to four hours to complete.
What type of anesthesia do you need for liposculpture?
Liposculpture is performed under general anesthesia in order to achieve the best results.
